Mr. Akerlow has been active in the real estate markets for over 30 years. During that period he has been responsible for the development and leasing of more than 1.5 million square feet of office, industrial and commercial space, in excess of 1,100 hotel rooms, and over 430 condominium units. He has managed and developed numerous residential sub-divisions, industrial parks, mixed use projects, free-standing commercial buildings and hotels. In the process Mr. Akerlow has served such major clients as Holiday Inns, Quality Inns, Comfort Inns, Sheraton Hotels, McDonalds Restaurants, Burger King Restaurants, Safeway Stores, Ernst Home Centers, Mervyns, IBM, Verizon, e-bay, Terrabrook and Sinclair Oil Company. He has also been a charter member of the Million Dollar Club of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors.
He currently directs all aspects of company projects including its urban in-fill nad mixed-use projects. Current projects include traditional neighborhood developments in Farmington and Woods Cross, Utah; a redevelopment project in Ogden, Utah; a suburban townhouse project in Draper, Utah and several in-fill projects in Salt Lake City, Utah. He directs the sales activities of Proterra Realty, Inc. and the construction activities of a builder-partner, Ironwood Development, Inc.
In addition to his very active business career, Mr. Akerlow is a major participant in local and national politics, civic affairs and church service. He was elected to two terms as Utah Republican State Committee Chairman and served for four years on the Republican National Committee. He was elected a Presidential Elector in 1984 and again in 1988. He has served in numerous other civic capacities such as Director of the Salt Lake City Model Cities Agency, and as a major participant in the Salt Lake Redevelopment Agency, the Salt Lake Housing Authority and the Salt Lake Relocation Agency.
Mr. Akerlow and his colleagues were responsible for the first redevelopment project constructed in Salt Lake City at the site of West Temple and Second South. As the former director of the Salt Lake Model Cities Program, he was partially responsible for the funding and organization of the Salt Lake Redevelopment Agency, the Salt Lake Housing Authority and the Salt Lake Relocation Agency.
Mr. Akerlow is a Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Utah where he also studied law. He is a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Association of Home Builders, the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute and other trade and professional organizations.
